Henry Ward Beecher A self-taught artist working primarily with acrylics, collage, mixed media, and drawing. I have always been fascinated by shapes, colors, textures, and contrasts. Whether I'm looking at a landscape, a city, a tree, or a vase of flowers, it's the interplay of shapes and colors that excites me most. I have several ways of starting a new piece. The first is to begin with a relatively realistic rendering of a subject. I then let go of the source material and allow the paint itself to guide me. When painting, I don't try to imitate a predetermined reality. The second approach is to start completely randomly, covering the surface with color and texture. From there, I begin to extract (or impose) forms, and then I simply let the paint tell me what to do next. Regardless of the starting method, it's a step-by-step process, like a journey where hidden facets can be discovered at every turn. It's an exhilarating, exciting part of artistic creation.
